REFLECTIONS
IN TIME.
Pomegranates by John Singer Sargent - 1908
In 2021, I began to write a reflection every day for my community so that they might wake up with new thoughts and insights on Scripture. These 600-700 word pieces were therapeutic for me to create and instantly became the highlight of my job. I researched, I learned, I vented, I poured my heart out, and almost every night before I went to bed, I produced these. As I write this, 1,678 days have passed since I wrote my first. I am a different person now. My perspectives have changed. My faith has developed. Most importantly, I am a different writer. But each one of these pieces is a part of me.
These reflections are organized according to the days in the liturgical calendar, since they were originally written as commentary on the readings from Mass on that day. I have deliberately chosen not to indicate when they were written, as I believe the mix of new and old gives a better account of my style as a writer and my spiritual thought process. Some are very good, and some are very bad. Some are theologically precise, and some may contain error. Please read them with patience, and please do not ascribe any authority to them. They are, after all, just my thoughts. My hope is that these reflections touch the hearts that need to be touched. They were my comfort in these last few years of my professional life, and I would love to share that comfort with others.
